(I wrote this post yesterday morning(ish), but couldn’t get the video to work…so Allan just did the EXACT thing I did, but of course it worked for him).
Right now I’m sitting in a hotel in Austin thinking I should really shower up, get out and see the city. Or at least the theater a few blocks away to see Jane Eyre. Allan is interviewing for a job all day, and so I plan on reading, (idea) shopping at the outdoor mall outside our hotel, and maybe sneaking off in our rental car to see that movie. (If we’re going to be friends, you should probably know I’m a huge Jane Austen/period piece drama junkie. And boy I tell you, I’ve been practically hyperventilating waiting for this movie to come out).
It’s nice to get away I suppose, but truth be told, I’m kinda freaking out without my kids. I completely fell apart after I kissed them goodbye yesterday at the airport . I’ve never been apart from them for more than 4 or 5 hours you see, and so a four day absence translates into withdrawal and heart burn. Get a grip, Mim! I’m sorta pathetic, I know.
Well, anyway. I saw this video online a few weeks ago, and it totally mesmerized me, and made me REALLY want to upholster an old chair I bought years ago with big plans to gut and reupholster, but of late I’ve been feeling is a bit over-my-head. This video pumped me up. And the shop is here in Austin, so maybe I can coerce Allan into taking me tomorrow as part of our see-the-city activities (I’m not sure that fabric/upholstery shops qualify as top priorities for him, but they’re sure at the top of my list of must-have-resources for any place we move…)

How fun to be in Austin, I wish I would have known sooner, one of my best friends lives there and knows all the great material and crafty stores to go to, it is a mecca of gorgeous things. Have fun down there, it is a great city to be visiting…and enjoy the warm weather, oh how I miss Texas this time of year….:)
Yeah, I didn’t even think to ask about that. I feel out of control that I’m in this great city and all I want to do is fabric shop! Are you from Austin then? We couldn’t remember what part…
I grew up about an hour north of there, near Waco, but I have a few friends who are down there…have fun, even if it is fabric shopping.
Totally loved this. Thanks for sharing.
So, I had been wondering about places you might live…
Excited for you but very sad. How will I ever see you if you live in Austin?
But, someday when I come to visit you we’ll go to spruce together.
Love that video. It totally inspires me!
It is hard to leave kids behind but I think it is a time for rejuvenation and time to yourself and your spouse. It is always needed but hard to say goodbye. I know fabric stores would be on the bottom of J’s list to do!
Enjoy!!!
So cool!!!! You can DO ANYTHING girl. I have no doubts with your capabilities
As for being on a vacate with your hubby. Enjoy! Your kiddos will be fine. Have SO much fun shopping and seeing your chick flick. Youre the cutest!
I just found you blog the other day and I LOVE your style! I am going to be trying some of the sewing projects you’ve shared. Mostly the maternity ones because I am preggo with number 3! You’ve totally given me the confidence I need to try sewing knits on my sewing machine. Thanks for all the inspiration and have fun in Austin!
Mim,
Did you get to go the upholstery shop? Email me the answer!
