Martha the Moth puppet

As I was trying to tidy up the squalor that is my kid’s room today, I came across a puppet that I made years ago back when I worked at Springville Library doing story time. It’s for the book Martha Moth Makes Socks by Cambria Evans, and it’s about a hungry moth who, when preparing for a birthday party, can’t keep herself from devouring all the delicious party cuisine–which consists of socks, scarfs and yarn. Yum! It was a hit then, and has continued being a real crowd pleaser with my kids, although I still don’t own the book (I’ve just checked it out from the lib)!

Here she is: I made her body be a big bag basically, and her jaw and her mouth separate so she can “gobble up” any stray socks or undies lying around whilst getting fatter and fatter as the book progresses.

To see her in action, click on the video that I recorded back in 2008 for my family blog.

(Martha sounds a bit like Grover having a foodgasm, doesn’t she?)
