Jumping on the Painted Antler Train

I’ve always really dug the antler trend, I just never had the means to make it happen. I mean, where does one snag an antler?? Enter avid-hunting-father-in-law. I finally remembered to ask him a couple weeks ago, and he promptly popped out with a pair that he said my hubby had killed the dear deer they belonged to once upon a time ago. Allan didn’t remember that, but I took a moment of silence for the deer, and then busted out my paint.  I love the way they turned out, except I regret the white strips and gold tips on the end. They make them look like fingernails, and thus the antler transforms into a creepy talon. I try not to think about it.

So, are you into antlers? Can you support the trend? I know they won’t be cool forever, but I’m willing to live in the moment, and seize the trend!

(Whoa, creepy talon shot!)

Personally if I had the house, which I don’t, I would love an antler chandelier.

And although my #1 son has a mounted pair of antlers above his bed, I don’t really know what I’d do with them otherwise.

LOL, you’re right, the ends do look like creepy fingernails. Too funny.
I think antlers are cool but I’m not sure exactly how I’d do them in my home. Antler chandeliers would be awesome though (like the other commenter mentioned).

So you agree! My hubs keeps saying it’s all in my head, but let’s be honest, a talon is a talon, even when painted with chevron stripes…

i’ve never seen them painted! not in a pattern, at least. i love it! i want to see them once they are on the wall. they won’t look like talons at all. and good job, allan, for hunting down that sucker.

You know I always feel like if I see something on Pinterest, then it’s universal. Now that you mention it though, I think I may have only seen it on Pinterest once.. Hey are you going to be in Utah sometime this summer? Hope so. We need to catch up.

Okay, so #1, to answer a reader’s question: the antler is set on a small knick-knack shelf in the living room amidst a picture and other delights. #2, Having seen the antler in person I can honestly say I totally did NOT notice any talon thing going on. Nada. I’d say it’s the best use of an antler I’ve seen.

Love the painted pattern! What a great idea!

Most of the antlers we have are sheds that my cowboy husband finds while working. I also have the coolest elk antler from a horn hunt we did a couple years ago. Seriously, horn hunting is a big deal in Wyoming. :)

One of these days the hubs is going to build a coat rack with them, but until then they’re mostly in a pile in the garage.

Well, I’m willing to bet at least, that they’re a pretty cool pile out there. A coat rack would be genius!!
