I can’t help myself.

notionjackpot I cant help myself.

Sigh.

Big sigh.

I took my sewing machine in for a much needed service yesterday and I had that same violently depressed feeling I had when my mom grounded me from Ben Cox’s birthday party in the 7th grade–like my  life was over.

It was sewing like a freight train, and skipping more (stitches) than my first cd  (which incidentely, was Deep Blue Something’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s).  The time had come, and I had to say goodbye…for three days .

So I’m trying to buckle down tonight and do a few things that I’ve been meaning to for/awhile/ever and now I’ve really got nothing better (or tempting) to do.

I do have two beauts to blog about–another shirt for me, and a dress for my gal. They are finished, (and lllove them),  but I’ve yet to have a good photo opp as it has been colder than Costco’s dairy section around here.

But I did want to randomly mention (confess) my inner-hoarding tendencies. I can’t RESIST frequenting my local thrift store, and when I do, I always hit up a few hot spots. FIRST and foremost, I hit up the domestics. I look for sewing notions, trims, laces, fabric, sheets and patterns. I already have more than I need…but I can’t stop myself–what if I miss a treasure??  Then as I rush over to lawn and garden to look for lamps, frames, and random treasures that I wasn’t looking for, I scan the furniture to seek out those treasures that merely need the proper vision and love and tender care. Those are my usual hang outs, but I if I have time and my kids aren’t with me, you can bet I’ll be slowly examining the shoes, collectibles or woman’s clothing for any potential refashions. I frequently feel overwrought with guilt during these thrift outings, but I must say I have stumbled upon more than a few gems in my day.

Last week I hit the jackpot of sewing trims (all for $2 bucks)

These came in real handy in my girl’s dress as you will soon see.

What are your thrift store weaknesses? And how do you shake the guilt??

I have way too many thrift store weaknesses. It’s ridiculous, really. You know me and my project restyle obsession…I can’t stop! I’m running into the problem of what to do when your closet starts overflowing and you can’t get rid of anything? eep! Bigger closets? I wish!

Well, you KNOW this is an inherited weakness and that MY weakness is books, books and more books. I still have an unreasonable number of books, despite passing off a continual stream to any willing kids for the grandkids.

p.s. is it fair to mention that the reason double-dare mim got grounded was she took her baby sister up to a sky-high treehouse? Imagine your gal trying that with your current bub (in a few years), and you will realize today that you’re lucky to be off grounds today!

you shouldn’t feel guilty for something you so obviously enjoy and for buying something that takes up so little space and costs $2. now, if your weakness was to go to saks 5th avenue every week and scoop up 12 pairs of shoes, that would be a pastime to feel guilty about.

I need to get my machine serviced in the worse way. I am waiting for a time when I can live without my machine for a few days….even then it is going to be way hard. Something with my bobbin is way outta wack.

Thrift store temptations? I have to say I am not the most seasoned thriftier, I have aspirations though. When I do go though I am always drawn to the fabrics/notions of course, but also all that vintage Pyrex. Yummy. I am kicking myself for not buying a vintage aqua sewing machine I saw a couple of weeks back. To my credit, it was $55.00 and the cord clearly had one too many encounters with a feline. I went back on 1/2 price Saturday and sadly it was gone. :(
